Chief Chick Comments

War of the Redheads...well not really according to this film, Mary Queen of Scots. First cousins once removed, Mary had a strong claim to the English throne as her Grandmother was Henry VIII's sister. Mary was legitimate while Catholics considered Elizabeth I illegitimate. There is no evidence that the two Queens ever met although the movie suggests it was possible. This movie based on the book, portrays the Queens as betrayed by their male advisors and courts. No depiction of Elizabeth I have seen suggests such a weakness. One always thinks of Bette Davis as Elizabeth I. At any rate, the acting especially by the ladies is superb with Ronan the clear lead as title character. Interesting, perhaps impobably story, yet dark and interesting.
