Chief Chick Comments

This beautifully animated film is by the great Hayao Miyazaki and is shown in both Japanese and English. Perhaps the most beautiful animation I have ever seen. Truly the poster for the movie(to your left) is my all time favorite. Hiro has very bad eyesight and dreams that he will become an aeronautical engineer. While his vocation is true, much of the rest of the movie is fictionalized. He meets a young girl on the trail to Toyko when a devastating earthquake occurs in 1923. He saves her and her Nanny but fails to get to her name. Many years later when he is working for Mitsubishi Engine Co, he runs into her again. This movie is bitter sweet and a bit long, but the beauty of the animation is almost beyond description. The sky, clouds, and nature scenes are breathtaking. Children may find parts a bit boring but it is only PG 13 because of the smoking depicted in the movie.
