Chief Chick Comments

A Perfect Gem. David Oyelowo, who attended the screening, spent over six years bringing this film to us as producer and star. Rosamund Pike joins him beautifully as Ruth Wilson who ultimately marries Prince Seretse Khama of what is now Botswana and who is being educated in England by his regent Uncle who is ruling in his place. In 1948, both her family, his family and the British Government fought them. The British Government looks especially arrogant in this adaptation in which Jack Davenport plays the Lord in charge of the Southern part of Africa (Including South Africa which at the time was installing apartheid) for the Crown. The pacing is also perfect and while I have marked this 5 tears, it is not sad….it is very touching and someone with a soft heart will have moist eyes throughout. I think this film is deserving of many accolades but realize the award organizations have short attention spans for movies which open early in the year. You must see it!
