Chief Chick Comments

Born into two wealthy families, Peggy adored her father who perished on the Titanic. Her mother was "disturbed" throughout her life and Peggy broke free into the world of the Avant Garde. Without formal training, she became interested in the world of 20th Century Art and during her life in Paris, then London and New York, she became friends and lovers with many. Because of her father's early death, she inherited very little money(The Guggenheim Museum in New York City was founded by her Uncle). But because Pollock, Ernst, Mondrian and others were selling paintings for very little especially prior to the beginning of World War II, she was able to buy their works. She established Guggenheim Jeune Gallery in London after leaving Paris with many, many paintings and some artists in tow just as the Nazis were about to take over France. Ultimately, she established The Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice which is now run by her Uncle's Foundation with the stipulation that her art remain in Venice. Wonderfully informative documentary
