Oscar winning From Here To Eternity takes place the months before Pearl Harbor on the Island of Oahu Army Base. One of the most famous loves scenes of all time occurs between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr as the waves from the ocean wash over them. Lancaster plays a sargeant who falls for his Commanding Officer's wife played by Kerr. Her husband is not a good guy and she has had a rough go of it. Montgomery Clift has transferred in with a demotion to get away from another outfit because he no longer wishes to fight in the army boxing competitions. His CO insists and he is punished with every imaginable nasty duty. However, he does meet Alma at a club in Honolulu. She is played by a brunette Deborah Kerr beautifully. Finally, Sinatra is a goofy private with a quick temper. The movie ends as the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941…A Day which will live in infamy per Franklin Roosevelt. Of course, there is tragedy. While dated, this excellent movie won 8 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Director and Best supporting Actor for Sinatra and Best Supporting Actress for Reed. This was a key in reviving Sinatra's career. If you have never seen the physique of Burt Lancaster (6'2"), this is the movie to watch!
