This classic mystery/horror film is in French and was later made in English. Here Simone Signoret plays the mistress of Michell Delasalle, the headmaster of a boys' boarding school in the French countryside. He is cruel to both his wife, Christina, the heiress who owns the school and his mistress, Nicole, a teacher there. Finally, they vow to kill him in an elaborate set up over a long holiday weekend. They lure him to a small town where Nicole owns a building where they kill him…But later, his body disappears and a student swears he saw the missing headmaster. Christina has a bad heart and becomes more and more afraid of the ghost of her husband.
