Charming story of Ellis Lacey who leaves her small Irish village as well as her sister Rose and her widowed mother. With no opportunities at home, she is welcomed to Brooklyn with the help of Rose's friendship with a priest who arranges the trip, housing, and a job. Of course, in 1951 Rose is incredibly homesick , but begins to adjust and with the advice of the Priest takes a bookkeeping course. One Saturday night she meets Tony at a church sponsored Irish dance. He is Italian but came to the dance because he loves Irish girls…and soon he loves her. Events cause Ellis to return home and complications arise…I won't spoil the rest for you. The music is lovely, 21 year old Saoirse Ronan is talented and handles this role very, very well. You may remember her from The Grand Budapest Hotel where she played Agatha, the bellboy's love interest. Emory Cohen seems very Italian and his 50's era accent is perfect, I think. Loved the movie; hated that it was over as the credits began to roll. Note: Some men will not enjoy this as a large part of the story is about romance

I just loved this movie! Everything about it, but particularly the chemistry between Ellis and Tony. The scene on the bus ride home when they first realize they "like" each other was charming and heart-warming.
