Chief Chick Comments

Vanessa Redgrave is excellent if a bit odd in this roll as a reserved woman supporting "women's rights". Her distanct cousin, Basil Ransome, played by Christopher Reeve, is a handsome and charming Southerner who decides to woo Verena, a young charismatic speaker for the movement. He is adamently against the idea of women as equals to men and pursues Verena tirelessly. From today's standpoint, Basil seems wholly out of touch, but , I suppose, not so much in the 1880's. A bit on the long side.
