Chief Chick Comments

Jackie Robinson, the first black player in major league baseball. That we all know. Now we know more about his courage and the courage of Branch Rickey, owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jackie's number 42 is the only number retired by all of baseball. The unwritten code of baseball in 1947 was simple: whites only. Branch Rickey breaks this code by signing Jackie Robinson who is forced to endure prejudice, hatred, taunts and profanity from every direction-fans, owner, managers, and even his teammates. He succeeds beautifully by not fighting back, and by playing magnificently, inspiring all of baseball. It is wonderful to watch the black community come out to support him wherever he plays. Harrison Ford's portrayal of Branch Rickey is very good! (special thanks to guest reviewers JBS, RCS, WSR, JGR)
