Chief Chick Comments
Francis McDormand is terrific as a divorced gift shop owner whose teenage daughter was murder brutally 7 months before. She rents three old billboards outside of town to goad the police to find the killer even though she knows the chief of police is dying of cancer. Dixon, played by Sam Rockwell, is a dumb racist junior cop who often loses his temper and just doesn't "get it". The movie, while darker than you might expect, still has a bit of lightness. The resolution, as much as it exists, is in a surprise arena as the movie ends. The language is foul but probably close to what one would expect in the circumstances. Woody Harrelson is quite good and turns out to be a decent guy. Lots of little surprises but not a "laugh out loud" film
