Chief Chick Comments

This Swedish film, with subtitles, is all over the place but keeps coming back to the theme of the unique/avant-garde exhibition that is about to open. The Square is the object d"arte and within its borders all are meant to be equal and just, kind and considerate…sort of. Christian, the curator of the museum is stage center on a number of events which show him to act as though he believes in equality when, perhaps, his actions are not from the heart. Elisabeth Moss plays a US reporter who is meant to cover the exhibition as she interviews Christian and then runs into him again. When Christian's wallet and phone are stolen, he goes along with a cracker-brain idea to leaflet the building he believes houses the thief and the consequences are unexpected. I enjoyed this long movie, but, I think, it still requires a lot of contemplation to understrand what it means and where it is going.
