What a Movie! A fine-tuned composition based upon the actual story of Dr. Don Shirley and Tony Vallelonga's trip through the U.S. Southern States in 1962 for Dr Shirley's concert tour. Mahershala Ali, already an Oscar winner for Moonlight has already won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor in Green Book. The title describes a travel guide for African-American travelers to know where they will be welcome as hotel and restaurant patrons in the much more segregated America of 1962. Viggo Mortensen is brilliant as Tony Lip, a bouncer on leave from the Copacobana in New York who takes this job to make ends meet during a renovation of the Club. Dr Shirley is a bit of a sophisticated snob and one of the greatest pianists in the world who has left classical music at his recording company's insistence to play more popular music with his trio. This trip to the Southern U.S. takes courage. As the trip unfolds, we see what each learns from the other. Loved it!

This film is a must see! Superb acting, a great script and a re-look at a time in our not so distant past that none of us should forget existed.
