Chief Chick Comments

“The King and Queen are coming to Downton.” Wonderful, appropriate follow up to Downton Abbey, the series. If you saw the series, then most of the characters are familiar. For the newcomer, have no fear. You will not be lost. It is 1927. King George V and his Queen are touring Yorkshire and come to Downton Abbey for a day. The entire household at Downton Abbey is thrown into action on short notice. The Crawley's (Lord and Lady Grantham) are organizing the parade, the review, and the dinner. Downstairs, the servants are thrilled to be serving the King and Queen, though the insertion of the King’s servants dashes their hopes of direct contact. Big questions for Downton Abbey fans...Will both Tom and Thomas find someone? You will have to see the movie to find out. Quite a complicated story in two hours; however, the plots and subplots move right along. The personalities of all the main characters are on full display, and the dramas within the household burst into bloom beautifully. In addition, we meet Lady Bagshaw, Lord Grantham’s cousin, who accompanies the King and Queen. Lady Bagshaw brings a new twist to family relations and to inheritance disputes that allow us to see Violet Crawley, affectionately known as Granny (Maggie Smith) in all her glory. Bring a date. The guys will enjoy the historic cars, streetcars, ancient lawn mowers, King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, and the beautiful women. Everyone will be amazed by the spectacular costumes and gorgeous furnishings and architecture. A must see!!!
