Unbelievably drawn out tale of Elio and he explores his sexuality at age 17. Set 35-40 years ago, we see the loveliness of the Italian countryside where Elio lives with his mother and Professor Father. Every summer, they host a graduate student who works with Elio's father although in the movie, we see very little work. Lots of bike riding, swimming, some partying. Oliver is played by the very handsome Arnie Hammer. As it turns out, in these years before the acceptance of many gay relationships, both main characters are interested in each other. The scenery is lovely, the old house is interesting, and you feel you would happily jump into the time and place. However, it takes forever for the two to figure out that they are both gay or possibly bisexual and to get together despite the age gap. I prayed for the end to come. I checked this as "bring a date"...What I mean is that men and women might be interested. One lady at the movie said she chose it because two family members are gay and she was hoping to be enlightened somewhat. Anyway, just too long but otherwise pretty good.
