A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

(2019.00) - 109 min - PG

Jerry, a somewhat jaded writer for Esquire magazine, is asked to interview Fred Rogers for a special issue on heroes. A remarkably touching story evolves that includes Jerry's wife, his father, and his son. Tom Hanks is fabulous as Mr. Rogers, a "living saint".

Chief Chick Comments

This touching movie is one of my favorites of the year. Matthew Rhys plays Lloyd Vogel who actually became a good friend of Fred Rogers/Mr. Rogers. Lloyd wrote for Esquire Magazine and was assigned to write a short bio for an issue on Heroes. While wary of such an assignment (as an investigative reporter), he eventually realized what an extraordinary human being Fred Rogers was. Loved all the performances, but I am rooting for Tom Hanks for a best supporting Oscar. Yes, Hanks has won two (Philadelphia and Forrest Gump) and Brad Pitt, the favorite, has not won an acting Oscar. Never-the-less, what a performance!
