Chief Chick Comments
Peter Bogdanovich's try at a slapstick comedy with doors opening and closing suddenly, often in the hallway of a posh New York hotel. Isabella, Izzy, tells her history to her therapist played by Illeana Douglas. Izzy is played artfully by Imogen Poots and Arnold, the director who pays her $30,000 to stop being a call girl is played by Owen Wilson. Wilson, a married director, is casting a stageplay for Broadway. As is his practice, he arranges for a call girl the night he arrives. After their "business", Arnold offers the $30,000 to Izzy to stop this line of work. The next day she shows up and "kills" while auditioning for the part of….a call girl. Arnold resists but ultimately, his wife, Delta, who has arrived and is starring in the play wants Izzy for the part. Meanwhile, Seth the male star played by British actor(Sherlock's brother on Elementary) Rhys Ifans lusts for Delta whom he has loved for some time. Trying to keep secrets and a plethora of hookers and actors is supposed to make a good screwball comedy. Unfortunately, it just does not click. Lots of good and popular actors like Jennifer Aniston and Will Forte make it a bit fun to watch, but the story just does not work the way it could.
