While the trailers for Pride show the more comedic scenes, the movie is serious and historic as well. Led by a handful of gay activists in London, they collect money for the miners who very lives and way of living are threatened by the Tory government headed by Margaret Thatcher. The LGSM, Lesbian Gays Supporting Miners, have a little trouble finding a union group willing to accept their support when they finally connect with a Welsh village. Tentative, at first, many embrace the group but some cannot accept the help from a group they consider immoral. This is a touching movie which I must say brought tears to my eyes. Much of it is told through the eyes of Joe, a 20 year old cullinary student, who has not come out to his family but joins the group never-the-less. I recommend it…And I always like Bill Nighy's performances. I do not understand the R rating since I did not hear obscenities etc but maybe I missed them.

What an enjoyable movie. Of course it has its ups and downs, so it kept my attention throughout. And it was very good to see and appreciate the difficulties faced by oppressed groups, whether coal miners in Wales or lesbians and gays in London. There were some British-isms I could not understand, but I agree with the Chief. Brought tears to my eyes. What a great story.
