One of Poirot's best cases. Sir Charles Cartwright a famous actor of "some" years falls for a young noblewoman, the beautiful but poor Egg (strange nickname, but there you have it). Sir Charles invites a number of guests to his seaside vacation home and holds a cocktail party for some locals as well as Egg(a young woman of standing with whom he is in love), her mother, his best friend, Sir Bathalomew Strange, a famous dress designer and husband, and a famous playwright. As cocktails are served, the local vicar falls to the floor dead. Sir Charles tells Poirot is it murder, but Poirot sees no evidence of such when the cocktail glass is analyzed by police and found to be fine. Later other strange things occur and Poirot changes his mind.
