Chief Chick Comments

As the Cuban Revolution is beginning, Ed Myers( pseudonym) is invited to visit Hemingway in Cuba after he has written a heartfelt letter to the famous author. Ed is a writer for the Miami Herald and soon has found a touch of family with Papa and Mary Hemingway. The Batista government is cracking down in an effort to stop the insurgents and we do see agents murder people just as we see the revolutionaries storm a government building. This movie was filmed in Cuba in the actual locations including Hemingway's home. Papa's (Hemingway's preferred moniker) friends and wife, Mary, see him drift further and further into depression as he seems unable to write or live the "large" life he has always led. Joely Richardson is quite good as, of course, is Giovanni Ribisi. However, I especially liked Adrian Sparks as Hemingway. These performances are authentic. Full disclosure, Sparks is from my home town! Interesting look at this famous man and a time in his life of note. See it!
