Fascinating series based upon John Le Carré's book of the same name. Jonathan Pine is the night manager of a luxury hotel in Cairo. As a veteran of the Middle East conflicts, the Brit is more or less going through the motions when a female guest who is the mistress of a powerful Egyptian family asks him one night for help. So marks the beginning of how Pine is drawn into the underworld of arms dealing. He is eventually recruited by a British spy group separate from MI6 as he meets Angela Burr, the pregnant head of the group which is not respected by the big shots at MI6. Hugh Laurie plays Richard Roper the kingpin of the arms business and Elizabeth Debicki plays his very tall, beautiful mistress. Roper is surrounded by security and secrets and his girlfriend is none the wiser initially as she thinks he deals in agricultural equipment. Burr is close to an American spy played by David Harewood…in fact we think they have a history. This thriller is full of suspicion, some violence, some romance, and lots of tension. Excellent show. While this is a series made for TV in 6 episodes, it feels very much like a first rate movie. This movie is currently available for streaming on several outlets as well as On Demand.
