Very long movie about Fanny Skeffington who ultimately marries Job Skeffington in order to save her brother from prison. Both Bette Davis and Claud Rains were nominated for an Oscar. After Fanny's brother squanders their fortune, and embezzles at his brokerage firm, Fanny marries Job Skeffington who runs the firm. Walter Abel plays her cousin George who helps guide her through the next 30 years of her life as suitors continue to call even though she is married. This movie is a prime example of the era, but much too long. Orry-Kelly designed Davis's gowns as he usually did to minimize her figure flaws. Set in 1914 as The Great War is about to commence.
