Fascinating movie about one group of the 350 or so men who entered the war at the end-older guys sent from museums, Universities etc, but schooled in art and architecture. They were meant to find and save precious works of art much of of it had been stolen from private collections-much from Jewish collectors. Two pieces, The Ghent Alterpiece and the Bruge Madonna and Child, are highlighted in the movie. In this platoon, five Americans, A Frenchman, and an Englishman work together as the war ends. Matt Damon playing James Granger, a curator of the Met in New York, goes to Paris to try to persuade Claire Simone to help them. Simone had worked for the Nazis, but unbeknowst to them, she spoke German and recorded where every piece of stolen art went if it passed through the Paris office where she worked. A story which needed telling. Keeps you interested through with this great cast of characters.
