Chief Chick Comments

I had high expectations for this film….Helen Mirren, The South of France, Cute Poster-"What is not to like?". The only thing I was not crazy about was the title. Well, my expectations were met and with some nice surprises. Loved Helen Mirren as Madame Mallory, a widow with a one star Michelin restaurant in the South of France. Papa, played beautifully by Om Puri was a delight as he opens an Indian restaurant across the road from Madame Mallory. All out war breaks out between the two. Papa, a widower, has brought his five children from Mumbai after their restaurant was burned down. Hassan, his second son, is a creative and innovative cook who had been taught by his mother in India. He becomes friends with Marguerite, the sous chef, from across the street although they, in truth, are competitors in the field of cuisine as Hassan's skills improve and he melds a melange of classic French cuisine with Indian spices. The movie is more charming than I expected, keeps your interest for the full two hours, has beautiful scenery, and pretty cute actors. Loved it!
