Take a date if he is interested in the business of fashion. This is a fascinating documentary showing the two months between the announcement that Raf Simons, a Belgian, would be the new head designer for Christian Dior and his first haute couture show. We see some of his inspirations, the staff dealing with his requirements, especially fashioning fabric from artworks. Raf, as he is called by the staff, is precise in what he wants yet wants to be fair to his staff in the atelier. This is very hard to pull off as a demanding boss is often very difficult. In the end, the show is marvelous and the staff well pleased with the result. Simons had been known as a minimalist designer who started with furniture and moved on to men's fashion. Dior, of course, is often about detail. Surprisingly, Simons does not view himself as a minimalist and with visits to Dior's childhood home in the South of France and reading a bit of Dior's autobiography, he incorporates the tradition of Dior with the spirit of the "moderne".

This movie was such a visual delight that I was gasping throughout. Watching them design and construct this beautiful clothing was fascinating and the end result is spectacular. Such attention to quality and detail…it's a wonder the garments aren't even more expensive!
