Typical Woody Allen period piece…this one set in the 1930's in Hollywood and New York City. Bobby Dorfmann is the nephew of Phil Stern, a big time Hollywood agent. When Bobby arrives in Hollywood, eventually Phil takes him under his wing as an errand runner. In the meantime, Bobby starts to fall for Vonnie who is Phil's secretary and is dating a journalist. Kristen Stewart, Vonnie, and Bobby find they have a connectioin even though she is not available. They become friends and when her "boyfriend" breaks up with her their relationship deepens. In the meantime, Bobby's big brother, a mobster in New York, is buying a nightclub and asks Bobby to help him run it. Bobby returns home and makes a success of it. Frankly, the story is a bit thin, but never-the-less, I did enjoy the period nature of this piece. The clothes, homes, and environs seemed, well, just right. That is probably enough to justify a viewing. The end of the movie is meant to be a bit meaningful, but really it does not seem genuine. Enjoy it, but it is certainly not Midnight in Paris! PS This is a close call on "Take A Date". Some men will enjoy the film. Those more action oriented will not.
