Chief Chick Comments

Bradley Cooper melds perfectly into the persona of Chris Kyle who during four tours of duty in Iraq as a sniper killed more of the enemy than any sniper in US history. The view of this humble man was that he was saving the lives of fellow soldiers. Cooper gained 40 pounds for this role and his Texas accent seems just right. He is nominated for an Academy Award for this role. Sienna Miller plays his wife who waits at home with their children often welcoming back a man who is almost a stranger. The movie is gripping and as you will see very violent. Frankly, it is a better movie than The Hurt Locker which won the Oscar.

This is certainly more a guy movie than a chick flick. I was struck by the very realistic scenes of Iraq from the air and from the ground. Yes, Chris Kyl was a dedicated, talented, yet humble man who was focused on doing the best he could for his country and his fellow soldiers. But I was reminded that politicians send many young men into impossible combat situations, with families left to pick up the pieces. Totally engaging.
