Chief Chick Comments

This movie was "in the works" for eight years as David Dobkin, the director, and Robert Downey Jr steered it to completion. Downey plays Hank Palmer a wealthy Chicago defense attorney who makes a lot of money defending guilty people. A number 1 graduate of Northwestern's Law School, he gets no respect or affection from his father who has been a judge for 42 years in a small town in Crawford County Indiana. When Hank goes home for his mother's funeral, he intends to leave as soon as the funeral is over. However, the night of his Mother's funeral, a murderer recently released is killed by a hit and run driver. Soon, The Judge, Hank's father is accused of the murder. The Judge does not want Hank to defend him, but , of course, he cannot leave town. This is very well acted. I think Robert Duvall may be nominated for yet another Oscar…perhaps Downey as well. It is touching and troubling but keeps your interest for the full 141 minutes.
