Roosevelts, The :An Intimate History

October 26, 2014

Many of you may have watched the Ken Burns series on PBS of The Roosevelts: An Intimate History.  It is marvelous and you can now see it on AmazonPrime(click on this link if you wish).  Written and directed by Ken Burns and featuring Doris Kearns Goodwin and other American scholars we see actual footage of the Roosevelts and hear their voices.  Peter Coyote narrates with Meryl Streep as Eleanor, Paul Giamatti as Theodore, and Edward Herrmann as FDR.  They sound remarkably like the originals whom we also hear.  Eleanor, the fifth cousin of her husband Franklin, was the niece of Theodore and daughter of his brother Elliott who had died at a young age from the family curse of alcoholism and depression.  If you are American, you know parts of the story, but probably not all of it.  People around the world will enjoy this story especially the role of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the effort to defeat the Nazis in World War II.  I recommend it highly!
